About this project
I was brought in on this project timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1968 assassination. It was intended to be a walk down the Dallas boulevard bearing his name with residents and business owners acting as prism to reflect the decay and hopefulness of the neighborhood.
I conceived of using the doors video footage to welocme readers to the next stop on the interactive's journey. I wanted to humanznize a place with these unique and varied neighborhood ambassadors — a pizza place owner, a former district attorney, a homeless man — and make a connection with Dallasites who may have never been to the South Dallas area or are fearful of it.
By the numbers
At just over four minutes, this interactive presentation had fantastic engagement time. While page views were average, the readers who did visit the interactive stayed to consume the content.
